CBD Oil for Diabetes

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most popular cannabinoids, or chemical compounds, derived from the cannabis plant. In recent years, the popularity of CBD use has soared due to its many health benefits and medicinal uses. CBD has been known to reduce inflammation, combat anxiety, reduce the likelihood of seizures, and even prevent cancer.

One perhaps less-discussed health condition that CBD is believed to help treat is diabetes. While some openly claim that CBD is acure-all for diabetes, the truth is that research and medical knowledge regarding CBD’s ability to treat diabetes is still somewhat limited. However, there is evidence that suggests CBD can help mitigate secondary symptoms of diabetes, which in turn helps reduce the overall severity of the condition. To understand how CBD combats diabetes, one must first understand the condition itself. Simply put, diabetes is a metabolism disorder, in which the way the body digests and converts food into energy is disrupted. The majority of food we consume is broken down into glucose (sugar), which is one of the body’s main sources of fuel. When food is digested, glucose is passed into the bloodstream where it is then utilized by cells for energy and growth. In order for cells to properly absorb glucose, however, insulin must be present. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas, and helps balance the levels of glucose in the blood. When food enters the body, the pancreas secretes the right amount of insulin to transfer glucose from the blood into cells. However, for people with diabetes, the pancreas either does not produce enough,or any, insulin (type 1 diabetes), or their cells do not respond to insulin properly (type 2 diabetes). Glucose then builds up in the bloodstream, overflows into urine, and subsequently exits the body. In turn, the body loses its main source of energy.
