Is CBD A Potential Therapeutic for Cardiovascular Diseases
The
cardiovascular system plays a vital physiological role in the human body. This
system is made up of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels. It is responsible for
carrying oxygen cells in the bloodstream, transporting nutrients, and hormones.
The system also gets rid of waste like carbon dioxide using the same systems.
Malfunction of the cardiovascular system is catastrophic and often lethal and
is among the leading causes of death worldwide. Some diseases and conditions
associated with the malfunction of this system are chronic rheumatic heart
diseases, coronary heart diseases, hypertension, and disease of the arteries,
arterioles, and capillaries. Prevention and treatment of these diseases are often
associated with a healthy diet and exercise. However, research is beginning to
find CBD as a new solution in preventing and treating diseases associated with
the cardiovascular system. CBD’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidative benefits
are the keys to being a therapeutic source for cardiovascular diseases.
CBD
is a cannabinoid that interacts with the vascular system. A study by the JCL
insight for the American Society for Clinical Investigation showed that CBD can
cause vasorelaxation, a process that reduces the tension in blood vessel walls.
This ability of CBD means that it can reduce blood pressure while resting or
under stress. High blood pressure is a key contributing factor to heart
disease, and CBD can reduce blood pressure. The same study also exhibited that
CBD can help with stress and anxiety. Stress is often seen as a mental health
issue; however long-term stress can have physiological consequences, as being
stressed causes an elevation in blood pressure. CBD is capable of lowering
blood pressure when a person is stressed.
